TDF 2009

In our household, July basically means 'Tour de France'. Working for a French-owned company that is a major sponsor of the event meant that I was able to secure us two tickets to the grand stand on the Champs Elysee for the Paris stage of the tour. It was a beautiful, sunny weekend and perfectly timed to catch up with the Lyons' and the McBrides at the apartment they were staying in in Paris Saturday night.

Waiting in the grand stand (with Nick wearing one of those ridiculous cycling caps)...

Our tickets to the grand stand also gave us access to the team bus area where we got this close up of Lance Armstrong.

Malaga

Wanting to have a cheap getaway with some serious warmth I booked a weekend for us in Malaga, southern Spain. My intention was to hire a car and drive out of the city but as I'd planned this all at last minute they were all booked out and so we had to stay in Malaga. Anyway, the town itself is pretty and good for a few days but I wouldn't recommend it as a beach holiday town!!

The main street with shade cloths thoughtfully placed to cover the street.

This is one of the town's beaches. It's quite a long stretch of beach with banana lounges and umbrellas dotted along the way that you can rent for the day. There's also a number of vendors walking along the beach selling cold drinks which is very convenient! We couldn't get used to the dirt coloured sand though.

A tapas version of one of Nick's favourites... the hamburger. It was actually a very delicious burger! We then had to order Nick another round.

Dublin with the Lyons'

We met Jacqui, Matt and Josh in Dublin at the beginning of their second week of their European holiday extravaganza. We arrived on the Friday to a beautiful sunny day however, the rest of the weekend was pretty wet and rainy with some bursts of sunshine. Our visit to Dublin was not so much about culture as it was about eating and drinking (although the drinking part is probably the culture!).

Nick and Matt on the Guiness factory tour

Nick, Vaughan and Fergus at the Jameson Whiskey factory... another tour

Josh, probably tired of being in another pub ;-)
